How to format Data Tables

  • We record the Data, or information from a experiment, on a Data table, or a series of Data tables. A well designed Data table allows a person to view data, analyze data, and graph data easily.
  • Students are expected to learn how to make Data tables for all experiments and how to analyze data in these tables. We practice this skill over and over in different formats to build and improve student's ability to observe, record, and analyze date.
  • The first figure below gives an example that shows the standard format for a Data table comparing the change in three different substances over time.

  • The Data Table below shows how we enter data for experiments like Worm Ranching and Mass by Displacement exercises. It is a good format to show change in many different samples over just a few time periods.
